Halloween in a Castle? The perfect place!
Sunday 19th October to Friday 31st October 2025
Bolton Castle, the stunning five-floor castle near Leyburn complete with dungeon and maze, is jam-packed with spookiness this Halloween. With something for every member of the family; witches, coffin, skeletons (just why is one in a pot?) and some poor soul whose punishment is to spend forevermore in the stocks, are scattered around the castle ready to make you jump! There are pumpkins too throughout the courtyard (which spookily no one has ever been able to count correctly!) and trails into the beautiful autumnal gardens to get some fresh air. Even Death is here for a visit, can you spot him?
It’s spookiness at every turn with our resident historical re-enactors who will bring the story alive from when the castle was at its most haunted. They are at the castle Sunday 26th October, Monday 27th October, Wednesday 29th October, Thursday 30th October and Friday 31st October with story time at 1pm and the witches’ trial at 2.15pm on each of these days. All included with entry!
If you want to see the Castle at night, here’s your chance. The renowned Castle by Lanternlight is taking place on 27th October at 6-8pm at £22.00 per person. A fun and relaxed event, visitors can experience the castle in a different ‘light’ while your historically dressed guide introduces you to tales of previous spooky happenings in the atmospheric setting of the castle. At one point, your lanterns will be your only source of light while the velvety darkness envelopes you. Or stay put and listen out for spooky goings-on. It’s certainly an experience in the dark within a medieval castle with such a history. The evening concludes with a drink by the fire where you can share your experiences and spooky tales. Minimum age for this evening event is 10 years.
If younger children want to experience a Halloween evening, there’s a special event perfect for younger visitors on 30th October from 4.30pm to 6.30pm. Tailored to fit to family fun, but with a good dose of spookiness to make you jump!
Prices for both events are £12 per adult and £6 per concession.
