The Castle, gardens and tea room are open 26th March to 30th October
Castle opening hours  – 10am to 5pm.
Tea room – 10am to 4pm

In light of the current Coronavirus situation, we request that our visitors pre-book online, for a specific day ahead of your visit.Visitors who have already booked will be given priority on arrival.  This will enable us to monitor visitors’ arrival and limit cash transactions.   If you do not have a pre-booked ticket, please be patient if you are asked to wait for as minimum amount of time as possible. You can also pre-book an activity pack for children here and a guide book here.

Pre booking ensures that we can better monitor visitor numbers and maintain your safety. Please pick a date and book the appropriate tickets, and, where there are specific events included in a day, this will be stated.


The Halloween events are going to run from the 16th to 30th October inclusive.
Throughout all of these dates everyone will be able to enjoy the Halloween trail as last year.


From the 22nd to 27th inclusive we will be doing the storytelling at 1pm every day and this will be included in the admission price but we ask you to please book ahead. The castle has some stories to tell, let your little ones and older children enjoy our tales of spooks and kooks!Get goosebumps on our Halloween trail for little ones and enjoy fresh air and fearsome fun along the way! Come across pumpkins and skeletons, and watch out for the witches, we hear they’ve made a date to visit the castle! Plus make up a spell and the best spell wins a prize. Free with entry.

Want to experience a brilliant spooky experience for all the family this Halloween? Then we’ve come up trumps for keeping everyone entertained with our ghostly goings on at Bolton Castle. Enjoy spooky storytelling in the Great Chamber, with Grumpkins for smaller children at 10.30am and 1.30pm, and ghoulish storytelling for older children at 11am and 2pm.

Castle by Lanternlight evening

Sunday 23rd

Flickering candlelight transforms the castle on our ‘Castle by Lanternlight’ evening.

Bring on the medieval, and hear all about the castle and its mysterious goings on with our knowledgeable tour guide from 6pm until 8pm – all told by lanternlight as you tour the castle.  The evening closes with a glass of wine while you sit by the fire for more tales and chat to get you into the spirit – no pun intended!  Tickets cost £20 per person. Booking essential.

Max numbers 30 so book soon. Cost £20 per person.


Please ensure that you either print off your receipt for your tickets or save the email on your phone before coming to the castle as the mobile signal is not always good at the castle and you may not be able to download the email as proof of purchase when you are checking in.
