Maidenhair spleenwort (Asplenium trichomanes)
Flowers: Evergreen. Height: 8cm (3in).
Medicinal: The plant has long been used to treat spleen and blood disorders.
Doctrine of Signatures: The elongated, spore-bearing structures on the backs of the leaves were thought to bear a resemblance to the human spleen and so the plant became known as Spleen-wort.
