Dill (Anethum graveolens)
Flowers: Late June to July. Height: 60cm (24in).
Medicinal: Known for its calming effect on the digestive system, Culpeper wrote in his Complete Herbal (1653) “the decotion of Dill is a gallant expeller of wind”. Seeds were boiled and drunk to help swellings and cure hiccoughs or made into an oil to ease pain.
Culinary: Salad dressings and sauces.
Magic & Myth: Dill was hung above doorways as it was said to repel witches.
